LAKE CHARLES - In continuing with a preview of the McNeese indoor track and field season, here's a look at the pole vault, multis, and throws athletes.
The final season preview will showcase some of the most experienced and most accomplished athletes on the Cowboy and Cowgirl rosters.
In the pole vault, senior Cowboy vaulter
Tyler Hixon will look to lead young Cowgirl Alexis Deville. Hixon, a Sam Houston High School graduate, will be joined by
Andrew Treme who both have huge aspirations for the season.
In the multi events,
Grace McKenzie has been a dominate force in the conference for the past few years, garnering 1st team All-American honors last indoor season. The senior Cowgirl not only has conference championship goals in mind, but goals on a national level.
McKenzie, an Ireland native, will have the opportunity to represent her country this upcoming summer at the Olympics as well as participate in the world indoor championships.
Freshman multi event athlete
Zhulien Monev will join senior
Lewis Cain and junior
Marcellus Boykins this season. After battling some injuries last season, the Cowboys will aim to get back to their normal form this upcoming season.
Alanna Arvie has served as a swiss army knife throughout her career. She looks to continue that trend in her final season of being a Cowgirl. Last season, Arvie won gold in the weight throw at the SLC Indoor Championships and looks to repeat as champion this season.
Although Arvie is the favorite, fellow Cowgirl teammate redshirt sophomore
Kira Benkmann, is looking to reclaim her hammer throw title. Before missing last outdoor season due to injury, Benkmann held the school record for hammer throw and will try and bounce back this season.
Senior
Morgan Woods will also look to conclude her excellent career at McNeese with a championship in the javelin throw. Woods qualified for the conference championships back in 2018 but was redshirted last season.
Woods will be joined this season by
Blanche Beard and
Victoria Canter, who will compete in their first season as Cowgirls.
On the men's side, senior javelin thrower
Donovan Banks will take aim at becoming a conference champion, national qualifier, and potential Olympic qualifier. Coming off of UCL surgery last season, Banks won his first conference title back in 2018 after he had torn it. He has been cleared by the medical team and is full go for the season as Banks threw an unofficial personal best at the intrasquad meet back in November.
Sophomore
Garrett Dietert looks to build on his freshman season that featured new events such as the hammer throw and the weight throw.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back on the track come Friday when they compete in the Fastrack Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Houston.
