BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The McNeese Cowgirl indoor track and field wasn't able to repeat as team champions but one Cowgirl, Morgan Talley, was named the conference's Most Valuable Performer after she won gold medals in both the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump at Monday's final day of the 2023 SLC Championships.
 
Talley racked up 28 total points in the meet with her two gold medal wins along with a runner-up finish in Sunday's pentathlon and a bronze medal in the long jump. Her medals were two of four winners on the day for both the Cowgirls and Cowboys.
 
Talley won the 60m hurdle with a time of 8.49 and then took first place in the triple jump with a mark of 40-6.25.
 
The Cowgirl 4x400 relay team made up of Kayla Harrison, Kayla Warner Bolu Akinwande and Jordan Carter finished in third place with a time of 3:52.14.
 
The Cowboys got a silver medal performance by Marcus Francis in the shot put with a mark of 55-5.75.
 
The Cowgirls finished in fifth place with 81 total points. Northwestern State won the women's team title with 111 points, edging out Lamar who finished with 108 and UIW at 103. New Orleans was fourth with 87 points followed by McNeese at 81, HCU 65, A&M-Commerce 46, Southeastern 32, A&M-Corpus Christi 27 and Nicholls 2.
 
UIW won the men's team title with 143.5 points followed by Northwestern State at 104, A&M-Commerce 91, Southeastern 81, A&M-Corpus Christi 65, HCU 57.5, New Orleans 43, Lamar 42, McNeese 33, and Nicholls with 1 point.
