McCarthy named SLC Men's XC Runner of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – McNeese Cowboy sophomore runner Ryan McCarthy has been named this week's Southland Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

McCarthy placed fourth overall at this past weekend's Cowboy Stampede 4-mile race, clocking a PR time of 19:31.6. He recorded second place points due to the first two runners crossing the finish line running unattached, helping the Cowboys to a second place team finish among five schools.

For the season, the Ireland native has posted three top 12 finishes in three meets. He finished second at the McNeese Season Opener on August 29 then 12th at the NSU Pre-SLC meet on September 12.

Next up, McCarthy and McNeese will run at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational on Oct. 12 in the final meet before the SLC Championships on Oct. 31.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
