LAKE CHARLES – McNeese will compete in its only home indoor track and field meet of the season when it hosts the two-day Cameron Communications McNeese Cowboy Invitational.
 
College teams including McNeese, Southeastern Louisiana, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern, and Dillard along with select athletes from Louisiana-Monroe and various track clubs, will compete on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. while over 90 high schools and 1,000 athletes will take part in the high school meet all day on Saturday at the McNeese Recreation Complex.
 
Cowgirls junior Nicole Casper will look to make history for the third straight week in the pole vault event as her competition will get under way at 3 p.m. on Friday. Casper has set a school record in the event the last two weeks, first with a 12-foot, 7 ½-inch clearing then at 12-feet, 9 ½-inches last week. She'll be looking to top the rec complex record of 12-feet, 11 ½-inches that was set in 2010 by Sarah Broggese and Erica Bartolina, both competing unattached.
 
She's currently ranked No. 3 in the Southland Conference behind NCAA record holder Demi Payne of Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State record holder Kara Whitson.
 
Simone Johnson, Maegan Moore and Danielle Epps, all ranked 3-4-5 in the league in the 60-meters, will be looking to take charge in the 55-meter dash while Lauren Thompson will be the one to keep an eye on in the 55-meter hurdles. Thompson is ranked No. 3 in the Southland in the 60-meter hurdle with a time of 8.66, just .28 seconds off the best mark in the league.
 
RaKira Turner will be looking to move up in the shot put from her No. 5 SLC ranking with a season-best throw of 45-0.25 inches.
 
On the men's side, all eyes should be focused on the 1-mile run where standouts Oliver James and Enock Bor will be looking to threaten the complex record of 4:06.19. Bor, the league's reigning men's track athlete of the week, has been bothered by a mild injury and will be a race-time decision.
 
Kartavius Hamilton will be one of seven Cowboys entered in the long jump and is the highest ranking jumper in the conference with a No. 4 mark of 22-11.
 
John Lemke, fourth in the SLC in the triple jump, will be looking to outdo his PR leap of 47-8 he marked last week at UAB, and thrower Hiram Morales, No. 4 in the conference in the shot put at 50-2.75, is entered in the shot put and weight throw.
 
The meet gets underway at 1 with the women's weight throw and men's shot put and the running events will start at 2:45 with the women's 5,000 meters.
