COLLEGE STATION – McNeese's Olandis Johnson and John Lemke picked up first place awards at Friday's Texas A&M Indoor Invitational while six Cowboys and Cowgirls recorded both personal bests and Southland Conference season bests.
The Cowboys finished ninth out of 14 teams with 33 points while the Cowgirls placed 11
th out of 14 with 12.5 points.
The sophomore Johnson rebounded from a seventh place finish in the 800 meters at last week's LSU Purple Tiger Invite to clock a personal best time of 1:55.19 to finish first on Friday. It's the second fastest time in the conference this season.
Junior jumper Lemke leaped to a first place mark of 48-11.50 in the triple jump marking the longest leap on the season in the conference while setting an indoor personal best.
Another PR went to Hiram Morales who threw 55-5.50 in the shot put for a second place finish and the longest in the league this year while distance runner Nathan Jones clocked the fastest time in the SLC this year in the 3,000-meters to finish sixth with an indoor PR time of 8:30.41.
On the women's side, senior distance runner
Gemma Bridge had the highest finish of the meet at fourth place in the 3,000-meters with a PR time of 10:36.18, a time that ranks as the fastest in the conference this season. One other PR was set for the Cowgirls that coming from
Maegan Moore with a time of 25.15 in the 200-meters for an eighth place finish.
