In 1970 he set a school single season record with 10 pass interceptions. He earned all-conference honors both from the Gulf States Conference (1970) and from the Southland Conference (1973). He led his team in pass interceptions four straight years and in punt returns twice. In 1970 he intercepted three passes in a game against Louisiana-Monroe and that remains a Cowboy Stadium record.
