A native of Lake Arthur, he was a three sport (basketball, football and track) letterman for the Cowboys and excelled in basketball. He set a freshman season scoring record with 344 points (18 ppg) and led the team in scoring all four years. His point production of 1,603 points was then a school record and now ranks 11th on the all-time chart. Three years in a row he earned all-conference honors and was named the Gulf States Conference player of the year in 1954. He was also a shot put and discus champion in track. He is retired after a career in industry and lives in Lake Charles.
