The fastest of the fast is a good description for Fanahan McSweeney. Although he preferred the longer routes, he could run the short races with the best of them. At one time he held McNeese records for the 200 yard dash (21.1), 400 yard dash (46.3) and 800 yard dash (1:49.4). He also ran legs on Cowboy record setting sprint and mile relay teams. McSweeney competed during the time McNeese was making the transition from the Gulf States Conference to the Southland Conference and missed out on most league championship action. He went on to compete in the Olympics for his native Ireland and would write a book about his life. (DECEASED)
