He was a two sport - basketball and track - standout for the Cowboys and earned post season honors in both. He had come to McNeese after an outstanding track and field career at Roanoke High where as a junior he had jumped 25 feet in the long jump and just missed making the U. S. Olympic team. In basketball he would be named to the all-Gulf States Conference team twice and he would lead the Cowboys in scoring in the 1959-60 season. In track and field he won three straight league titles in the long jump and also held the school and conference record at one time. He is now retired and living in DeRidder.
