Not only did he serve McNeese State as its first football and basketball coach, but he was also dean of men and president of the university. During his term as president he helped McNeese make the transition from junior college to senior college status and its athletic program from junior to senior grade. He debuted the football program in 1940 and then brought it back again following World War II and in basketball he coached for seven seasons from 1946 to 1952, compiling a 124-58 record. His very first team lost only two games (winning 15) while his 1948 team posted an 18-5 mark and his 1950 squad was 17-9.
