He was a three time McNeese State free throw shooting leader and in the 1967-68 season he led the nation in free throw shooting with a .944 percentage, having made 85 of 90 attempts. That mark continues to stand as a school record as does his career mark of .916. He was a starting guard on the Cowboy 1967-68 team that posted a 20-5 record, won the Gulf States Conference title and hosted a regional in the NCAA Division II playoffs. After graduation Kent went into law enforcement and has served as a prison warden and is now over several prisons in Louisiana and Texas.
