Dugas, a native of New Iberia, played shortstop for the Cowboys from 1977 to 1980, earning all-Southland Conference honors in 1979 and 1980 and being named the team’s most valuable player in 1980 when he led the team in batting average with a .327 mark and in RBIs with 32.

He slammed 25 career home runs (10th on the all-time list), hit 29 doubles (20th on the list), drove in 109 runs (13th), scored 133 runs (8th on list) and collected 164 base hits (13th).

Dugas posted a career batting average of .293 and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians, playing 10 seasons of professional baseball, seven in Class AAA with teams in the Cleveland and Los Angeles Dodger organization. His professional baseball career totals had him batting .259 with 127 home runs and 500 RBIs and he was named to an all-star team three times.

Since retiring from baseball he has been in the oilfield business. He has two daughters, Ashley Peterson and Megan.
