He was a self made player who became one of the best in McNeese State history. Out of Alexandria, Ray came on to lead the Cowboys to a Southland Conference title, to earn all-SLC and all-Louisiana honors and be named the outstanding player in the conference in 1975. Twice he was named the school’s most valuable player (as both a freshman and as a senior) and he completed his career with 1,902 points (fifth on the all-time list) and 883 rebounds (also fifth on the list). He was drafted by New Orleans after his collegiate career and played several years of professional ball. He is now a teacher and coach.
