He was a successful collegiate tennis player who also be-came one of the top collegiate tennis coaches in the state. He had played on four consecutive Gulf States Conference championship teams in the 1950s and ‘60s and would go on to coach the Cowboys to four straight titles in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His teams in 1969 and 1970 lost a total of only one dual match and his top players included Jes Stewart, Joe Layman, Ernest Weafer and Randy Chamberlain. After retiring from coaching, Brown continued at McNeese as a member of the health and physical education department and as head of the institutional effectiveness department. He continues to write about tennis, now living outside of Atlanta.
