 He was one of the early distance running standouts for the Cowboys. He held school records in the mile and two mile runs. He was also a three time Gulf States Conference mile champion (1957, 1958, 1959) and he won the two mile title in 1956 and 1957. He ran on the 1958 Cowboy team that won the GSC title and on three league cross country championship teams, earning team MVP honors in 1959. He served in the U. S. Army for 10 years, rising to the rank of major and earning a Bronze Star for valor in Vietnam. He now lives in Plaquemine where he rides and raises horses.
