He was one of the Cowboys early passing sensations, having come out of Baton Rouge with a rifle arm. He led the Cowboys in passing in the 1952 season with 27 completions for 514 yards and six touchdowns. One of his tosses - a 99 yard strike to fellow Hall of Fame member Desmond Jones - remains as the longest scoring pass in McNeese and Louisiana collegiate football history. Landry earned all-Gulf States Conference honors and was the team MVP in 1952. He was also offered a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Rams but went into the service where he played service ball and then coached a year at Breaux Bridge High School. He then began a business career and is now retired and living in Lake Charles.
