He was a standout when boxing was McNeese’s dominant sport in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He won the nation­al junior college boxing title in 1950 in the 145 pound class and was also the school’s outstanding boxer that year. In 1949 he had been a national runnerup in the 135 pound class and during his career from 1948 to 1950, he only lost four matches, going 3-1 against boxers from LSU and defeating an all-Army champion. Following graduation in 1952 (he was in the university’s first senior college graduat­ing class) he entered the education field, seving as a coach and teacher and then later as a principal until his retirement in 1986. He coached football and track and retired as prin­cipal at LaGrange High in 1986. (DECEASED)
