He was credited with bringing the golf program to McNeese State and he did produce the first conference championship teams for the Cowboys. He started the program in 1956 and produced championship teams in 1958 and 1959. He also served the university as dean of men while coaching the golf team. He coached the squad from 1956 to 1960 and then again from 1983 to 1988. In his second go-around, four of his teams finished as runnersup in the conference tournament. Guillory also started up what is now the Moe O’Brien memorial intercollegiate golf tournament. It was one of the earliest collegiate tournaments in the South, having originated in 1959.
