He was a key performer on Cowboy tennis squads that won four straight Gulf States Conference titles from 1958 to 1961. He never lost a conference match and won the league’s No. 3 singles title in 1959 and 1961 and the No. 4 singles in 1958 and 1960. In 1958 he posted a 22-2 singles record that remains as the fourth best mark in McNeese history. Perez graduated with an engineering degree and worked for several years with W. R. Grace before forming his own company in Mexico. He is retired and in 1993 was named McNeese State’s distinguished alumnus. His five children attended McNeese and three of them played on the tennis team.
