One of the early standout distance runners for the Cowboys, he held school and Gulf States Conference records for the two mile run and won the event in both 1961 and 1962, the two years that he competed at McNeese. A native of Canada, Norris also was named the school’s most valuable track athlete for 1962. He was one of the first foreign stu­dents recruited for track and field by McNeese State and was in his 30s when he ran for the Cowboys. He also com­peted on the national level for his country.
