He was a starting quarterback for the Cowboys in the 1960s, noted for his running ability and his field leader­ship. In 1961 when the Cowboys posted a 7-2 record and won the Gulf States Conference title, he was named the team’s MVP. He would go on to an outstanding coaching career in the high school ranks, serving at both Barbe High School and Sam Houston High and at Angleton High in Texas. He also was a member of the McNeese coaching staff from 1982 to 1986, serving as the backfield coach and he spent one season as the McNeese baseball coach.
