Murphy is now in his 35th season as the director of sports medicine at McNeese after returning for his third stint in 2018.
A licensed physical therapist, he is a graduate of the Texas Medical Center in Galveston, TX.
The native of Springdale, PA has been inducted into the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame and has received the prestigious Jim Finks award for his accom-lishments in sports medicine.
In 2009, he was named athletic trainer of the year by the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association.
Murphy began his McNeese career in 1975 when Jack Doland was the head football coach, and spent 13 seasons as the head trainer until taking a job in El Paso. He returned in 1994 for a 20-year run, and in 2014, took a job as a physical therapist out in west Texas from 2015-17 before returning to McNeese.
Murphy and wife Debby have six children (Beth, Mandy, Tim, Stephanie, Megan and Brian) and two grandchildren.
