Smith, a native of Newton, Texas, is one of the greatest defensive ends to play the game at McNeese.
He earned all-America and all-conference honors during his time (2005-07) and was named the Southland Conference's Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 while garnering Player of the Year honors in 2007. He earned all-America honors by the Associated Press in 2006 and 2007 and was also an all-American by Walter Camp, Football Coaches Association, and Sports Network.
A third round selection by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008 NFL Draft, Smith is the school record holder for career quarterback sacks (31) and the single game record holder with five sacks against West Virginia Tech in 2006. He was named the school's Athlete of the Year for the 2007-08 sport season and played in the 2007 Hula Bowl as a senior.
