 A standout center and linebacker, he played both ways for the Cowboys in the 1960s and was a member of the unde­feated 1963 team. He was also the captain of that 1963 squad which produced the first undefeated season in McNeese history. In 1964, Conner was named the Cowboys’ most valuable player after earning all-conference honors as both a center and linebacker. He went into education after graduation and served as head football coach at Suphur High School where he would later take over as principal. He is now retired.
