He was the first big man to play for the Cowboys and dur­ing his career held almost all of the school records. He was drafted by Cleveland and had a 10 year professional career, playing in the NBA as well as with the Harlem Globetrotters and in Europe. He was an all-conference, all-American and all-Louisiana honoree and remains the school’s all-time leader in rebounds (1,212) and in blocked shots (311) and is second in scoring (1,986 points). Lawrence produced the first triple-double in McNeese history (25 points, 20 rebounds, 10 blocked shots against Oklahoma College of Arts in 1973-74). The team MVP in 1976, he also played on two teams that won 20 games and on a Southland Conference championship team.
