He was a two-time first team all-Gulf States Conference performer who was a standout on Cowboy teams in the mid-1960s as a defensive guard despite being only 5-11 and 184 pounds. He was a four year letterman and consid­ered the best lineman in the GSC during his playing years. Twice he was named the team’s outstanding defensive player and the same years he led the squad in tackles. He was considered to be McNeese’s best pass rusher using his quickness and strength to break through the opposing offensive line.
