    Coach

He helped bring the Cowboys into the modern football era, taking over in 1957 and never having a losing season in nine years as head coach. His record of 58 victories makes him the third winningest coach in school history and he also led his teams to four conference titles. His 1963 team produced the school’s first undefeated season, an 8-0 mark, and his 1962 team participated in and won the Golden Isles Bowl. He was named the Gulf States Conference coach of the year three times and he produced four all-Americans and 25 all-conference performers. He retired from coaching after the 1965 season and served the university as placement director until his final retirement. (DECEASED)
