One of the standout players in McNeese and Southland Conference history, Dumars is also a member of the national basketball Hall of Fame, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. He is one of only three players in SLC history to be named to the first team all-SLC squad four times. He holds five current McNeese records and is the all-time leading scorer for the school with 2,607 points. He was a SLC and Louisiana player of the year, was named to the Sporting News all-America team and played in the East-West, Aloha and Hall of Fame Classics. His jersey No. 4 was retired by McNeese. Dumars went on to a stand­out professional career with Detroit and now serves as the team’s president.
